Everyone’s favourite pantry staple

This is a fan favourite traditional vegetable spread in Croatia and beyond that we love to use as a side dish, sauce, spread, a meal in its own right, but also an ingredient in stews, bean salads or sauces. Zvijezda mild ajvar is made from the finest peppers and aubergines, with the addition of garlic. It has a lightly fried and creamy texture, and although it is traditionally prepared at the end of summer, it can be enjoyed year-round. It is combined with meat specialties, barbecue, as well as all vegetarian dishes, though many enjoy it as a humble spread on a slice of bread.
